Synopsis:
As a requirement of the DFES 'Harnessing Technology' strategy, all schools will need to implement a learning platform by 2008.  This course will explore the features of common virtual learning environments (VLEs) and the way in which they are currently used in an educational context.  The practical element of this course will make use of the free, open source package: MOODLE.

Who is this course for:
Anyone with a responsibility for, or an interest in, the implementation and/or use of a school learning platform will find this course invaluable.

Objectives:
▪To obtain a general appreciation of the uses of a learning platform / VLE in an educational setting including: information,
  learning content, assessment, discussion,  communication, conferencing and multimedia.   
▪To gain an overview of the VLE packages available to educational settings.
▪To carry out a practical activity, creating a content package using the MOODLE VLE.
To outline how MOODLE can be installed on your network, web site or standalone computer.


Duration:
Full day.

Facilities Required:
The presenter will require access to a PC with: digital projector and screen (preferably an
interactive whiteboard) and a connection to the Internet.
Each participant will require access to a computer, and a connection to the Internet.
All computers will require access to a networked installation of MOODLE. If your school does not have access then we will provide you with access to our own MOODLE system via the Internet.
